Volunteer Committees
Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity works with several volunteer committees. Committee volunteers help plan events, create promotional materials, recruit local churches to get involved with Habitat, select Habitat families and many other activities as well. Committees usually meet once per month. Volunteers are asked to attend all monthly meetings and to make a one-year commitment.
See information below to learn more about serving on a committee.
Please email the Volunteer Coordinator or call (970) 351-6766 ext. 21 for more information.
Habitat’s five volunteer committees include, Church Relations, Resource Development, Construction, Family Selection and Family Support
- Church Relations Committee: Committee works to engage local faith organizations/institutions to increase their involvement in our mission as well as to establish and maintain relations with various local faith organizations.
- Resource Development Committee: Works collaboratively with development staff and the board of directors to increase affiliate resources. Although the committee is geared toward raising funds, committee members must also be willing to identify potential “human resources” for volunteer efforts as well as identify potential donors for in-kind contributions. This committee is dedicated to increasing the capacity of GAHFH both in monetary and volunteer terms.
- Construction Committee: Responsible for working with the site selection committee and the Habitat Construction Supervisor. Under the direction of the board, this committee selects the area in which to work and the type of construction that best suits the needs of the local community and Habitat’s goals. The committee proposes guidelines to the board for the type of construction dealing specifically with the house design criteria, materials, and development criteria. Helpful skills include a background in architecture, real estate, building trades, and engineering.
- Family Selection: Committee members work with the Family Services Coordinator to hold family orientation meetings, as they are needed, for families interested in applying for a home. Committee members also review family applications, conduct home interviews, and recommend families to be approved by the board of directors. Recommended skills for this committee would include financial background in loan origination including reading credit reports, record keeping, and bilingual skills.
- Family Support Committee: Exists to promote the building of families in the process of building of homes. Partnerships between committee members and future families include guiding the family through the entire process of building their home with Habitat by completing homeownership classes, sweat equity hours, attending the signing of the contract, and closing and preparing for the dedication. Bilingual committee members are especially needed at present.
