Country Creations Partnership

Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity (GAHFH) is excited to announce a new partnership recently formed with Country Creations.  Country Creations has generously been donating their delicious braided bread for our construction volunteers and have opted to take their partnership to the next level by becoming a GAHFH funding partner.

Country Creations breads are loaves of braided bread with a variety of delicious fillings.  The 22 oz. loaves are delivered frozen and cook in minutes.   Each loaf requires only 3 steps to prepare:  thaw, let rise, and bake.  Each loaf is comprised of only the best ingredients and each loaf of Braided bread is made by hand in the Country Creations kitchen!  The dough is made from scratch and has no added preservatives.  Once completed, the braids are flash-frozen to lock-in the homemade taste and to preserve each braid until you bake it at home.

When you purchase a braid(s) through GAHFH 50% of the sale will be donated back to GAHFH to help us build homes with local families in-need.    Information on ordering coming soon!  If you have immediate questions regarding this partnership please contact Mandy Ewing at (970) 351-6766 ext. 13.

Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity

Through Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, 355 families will realize the dream of homeownership in 2007 alone.

Thrivent Builds with Habitat Locally

As you may know, the Weld County Thrivent Chapter and the local Lutheran churches have played an active role in building the Albanil Family home.  In partnership with Wendy Albanil and Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity, we look forward to the completion of the first Thrivent Builds home in Greeley.  This great success is due in part to the wonderful work being done by local Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members and Lutheran volunteers.

How are Habitat families engaged in this program?

You may have heard about the Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity alliance and wondered what the Habitat family’s responsibilities are in this relationship.  All Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity families are held to the same standards and are qualified based on 4 criteria.  A very common misconception about Habitat homes is that they are “given away;” this is not the case.  Every Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity family must:

  1. Demonstrate Need

  2. Have the ability to repay a 0-% interest loan
  3. Be willing to partner with Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity
  4. Be a citizen or legal permanent resident of Weld County

As you can see, Habitat offers a “hand up” rather than a “handout” for families who typically cannot qualify for a conventional loan.  Consequentially, it is highly likely that a volunteer who visits a Habitat worksite will work alongside the family who will directly benefit from a volunteers donation of time.

The need for housing

While it is estimated that 5 million people in the United States live in substandard housing conditions, many fail to realize that local families are struggling to provide even the most basic needs, like food, electricity and a safe place to live.  One family in who will benefit from the Thrivent Builds with Habitat alliance lives right here in our own community.

Wendy Albanil is one of 355 families in 2007 who will partner with local Thrivent representatives, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity to build her home at the Habitat North subdivision.  Wendy has two daughters, Leslie (2) and Myriah (1).  All three members of the Albanil family have been sharing a bedroom for the past year.  Wendy’s grandmother, Rosella, takes care of Leslie and Myriah and will also be moving into the family’s new home at 1812 Habitat Lane.  Wendy is ecstatic to be able to provide a home for her children that they can call their own. Wendy has been employed with Swift & Company for the past three and a half years.  In recent weeks she has had a very demanding schedule, often working six days a week.   In order to complete her required 500 hours of sweat equity, Wendy has used her vacation time to work on her home.

Wendy is looking forward to moving into her new home and is excited to decorate her girls’ bedrooms.  She is also thankful that they will have a place to play and jump.  Wendy is especially excited for her own kitchen, where she will be able to make banana muffins, cookies, tamales and enchiladas.  She also is looking forward to planting her flowers in her own yard.  She will soon be thinking about the furniture that she needs as she moves into her new home.

The Albanil family is very grateful and would like to thank Thrivent for their generosity and willingness to help build their home.  Wendy would like to say: “God bless you for all you do for people in need.”
