Habitat Homeowner Education
Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity took our commitment to affordable homeownership to the next level by implementing a comprehensive Family Services program. This program is intended to provide current and future Habitat families with the knowledge and experience they need to be successful homeowners, parents, neighbors, and citizens.
The Family Services program is comprised of a number of educational elements. Each workshop/class is a result of a partnership with local companies who commit to being a part of the educational program that each Greeley Habitat family completes prior to moving into their home. Homeowner education consists of:
- Money Smart: a 6-week consumer money management course that is taught by employees of New Frontier Bank of Greeley.
- Landscaping: a single evening basic landscaping class taught by an employee of Alpine Gardens. Designed to give future Habitat homeowners the opportunity to design their landscaping plan and develop an understanding of yard maintenance.
- Homeowner’s Insurance: a one evening class taught by Kent Stauffer, State Farm Insurance giving future homeowners the basic knowledge they need to select a homeowner’s insurance provider.
- City Codes & Covenants: a one-evening class intended to educate future homeowners about basic city codes and Habitat North covenants taught by employees of the City of Greeley and GAHFH staff.
- Home maintenance – The homeowner is educated about minor repairs in order to save both time and money. This course is taught by GAHFH Construction Supervisor, Andy Phelps.
