Homeownership Program
How does the program work?
Habitat is a HOMEOWNERSHIP program designed to give low-income families the opportunity to purchase a home. Through volunteer labor and the generous donation of money and materials, we build simple decent homes with qualified partner families. Homes are then SOLD to the partner family at zero profit and financed with a zero percent interest loan. These homeowners’ payments are then used to build other Habitat homes.
Habitat is a hand up, not a hand out. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, each family invests a minimum of 500 hours of “sweat equity” as they build their home. This affords each family the opportunity to be a part of the home construction process.
How do I qualify for a Greeley Habitat home?
All approved partner families must:
- Demonstrate Need- Families must be in need of adequate housing (must currently reside in substandard housing or the family’s current housing is not affordable)
- Have the ability to pay for their home - see table for required earnings
- Be willing to invest a minimum of 500 hours of “sweat equity” - Future homeowners work alongside volunteers and Habitat staff to build their homes. Homeowners are also required to complete a series of 4 educational workshops
- Be a citizen or legal permanent resident
