Qualifying for Homeownership
In order to qualify for the Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity homeownership program applicants must meet the following four requirements.
Demonstrate a need for housing:
- Current shelter is inadequate - structural defects, lack of heat, maintenance problems.
- Environment is inadequate - unsafe, unsanitary
- Number of bedrooms is inadequate - in relation to number, ages, and sex of household members.
- Unable to obtain a conventional or government mortgage loan.
Have the ability to pay
- Families must have the ability to make the monthly mortgage payments.
- Families must earn between 30 and 50% of the Weld County Median Income (see table below).
- Families must have a satisfactory credit history and references.

Be willing to partner with GAHFH
- Agree to complete a minimum of 500 hours of "sweat equity" prior to closing on your home.
- Agree to maintain your Habitat home in a manner that reflects pride in homeownership.
- Agree to complete a series of homeownership workshops which include: consumer money management, landscaping, seasonal home maintenance, homewoner's insurance, city codes, and covenants.
Demonstrate lawful presence
- Be a US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
