Local History
Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity (GAHFH) was formed by a group of local volunteers who saw the need for affordable housing and decided to put faith and love into action. Officially recognized in 1987, the affiliate completed its first home in 1988. A timeline of key events is illustrated below.
- 1993 -1st GAHFH “Blitz Build”
- 1994 -Two homes in Evans completed
- 1996 - One home in Eaton is completed. Land for Tiemann Village - a 22 home Greeley subdivision- is purchased
- 1997 -1st Tiemann Village church coalition build
- 2001 - Tiemann Village is completed
- 2003 - Infrastructure development begins at Habitat North – a 60-home subdivision in Greeley, thanks to a wonderful partnership with the City of Greeley and the Greeley Urban Renewal Authority
- 2004 -One home in Milliken is completed
- 2004 - Construction on the New Frontier Bank Family Resource Center (NFBFRC) begins, 1st Women Build program begins at Habitat North, English as a Second Language classes begin
- June 2004 -Arson fires destroy two Habitat North homes. Community rallies support and homes are completed on time.
- October 2004 -Habitat North Dedication
- 2005 -Computer classes begin at the NFBFRC
- October 1, 2005 -Grand Opening of the GAHFH ReStore
- 2005 - 2nd Habitat family completes their mortgage!
- 2006 -Playground at Habitat North completed by the Greeley Kiwanis
- 2006 – GAHFH ReStore sponsors their first home
- June 2006 - Affiliate celebrates the completion of the 50th home
- December 2006-Affiliate celebrates the completion of the 1st Annual Apostle’s Build
